I realized it was time to take what I’d learned and forge a new way of being, as difficult and uncomfortable as the process was. I put everything I had left onto the canvas, millions of little words, millions of feelings and millions of reasons to leave my old life behind. IN LAK’ECH was my second piece created for the Nevermind. collection. It was painted before I had an idea of where I wanted to go with my word art; I just knew that I wanted to explore turning words into art on canvas. The idea for this piece came from my spiritual mentor Francisco, who is a native healer – a Curandero – and has taught me so much about traditional native beliefs and practices. Read More
It’s angry, and raw and desperate and full of passion, just like I felt. This piece is made up of lyrics like “I heard the wind shout, beneath my feet, I felt the earth shake inside of me ... I’ll run forever but I won’t get far, ‘cause if I don’t have you, I will starve. There’s a wolf in my heart ... for you.” It took me weeks to finish; I had to stop halfway for several weeks because it brought up so much grief. Read More
